Damaged by the vagaries of the weather and the weight of the years, the “horse” in Place Bellecour will be restored at the end of the year.

The work should start at least in November according to

Le Progrès

 and should last a year.

The equestrian statue, emblem of the city of Lyon, had been the subject of a diagnosis, two years ago, having concluded that Louis XIV and his mount needed a refurbishment.

One of the animal's legs is cracked and the frame of the iron statue is damaged.

The statue will remain on site during the work

The work will be done on site.

The statue will therefore not be dismantled to be repaired in external workshops, as has been mentioned.

This will allow the public to follow the site in real time.

The amount of the transaction is estimated at 750,000 euros.

Last March, the two statues of Costou, living at the feet of Louis XIV, were definitively removed for restoration at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon.

After the operation, they will remain in place and will be installed inside the establishment.
