A total of four Swedish players are now isolated in Kazakhstan - Jacob Berglund, Eric Martinsson, Olle Alsing and Jakob Lilja.

Everyday, everyone in Barys Nur-Sultan plays in the Russian league KHL.

After a match on Wednesday against Russian Metallurg Magnitogorsk, the players were quickly escorted from the empty arena to their respective apartments.

Jacob Berglund's mother Camilla saw the match and reacted to the fact that there was no audience on site.

- Then we thought it was because of covid-19, but then understood when Jacob called that it was due to the curfew, she says.

The protests in the country are described as the worst in 30 years.

According to unconfirmed information, so far 26 protesters and 18 police have been killed.

Russian military aid has been sent to Kazakhstan and a national state of emergency applies.

Phone and internet downstairs

SVT has searched for the four players but none of them can use their Swedish mobile phones.

Everything is extinguished in the country after the demonstrations.

On Friday, Jacob Berglund called his mother from a Russian phone.

It is currently the only way the Swedish players can keep in touch with the outside world.

- The Internet is completely shut down.

So they have no opportunity to read about what is happening either, they are cut off from reality, says Camilla Berglund.

However, she is not worried about her son, who is far from the riots in the country.

- They are isolated in their bubble.

And soon they will go on to Russia, she says.
