Since the start of the year, three women have been killed in one week by their spouse or ex-spouse.

For Élisabeth Moreno, Minister responsible for Equality between women and men, "the means are in place today, it is a question of time" for them to be effective, she said at the microphone of Europe 1.

INTERVIEW

"It's an absolutely tragic start to the year for women," laments Élisabeth Moreno.

In the space of a week, when the year 2022 has barely started, three women have been killed by their spouse or ex-spouse.

A "matter of time"

"It's terrible when you see all the work that has been done over the past five years."

However, for feminist associations, the government has not put the necessary means to avoid these tragedies.

But for the minister, it is "a question of time" and not of means.

“We have been working headlong on this subject for five years. There are almost 50 measures that have been put in place, whether to protect victims, to better take their word into account or to put them to safety. then, also to avoid the passage to the act and the recidivism of these authors ", she specifies before adding that" never a government had so taken this subject head-to-head ".

"They are not alone"

Financially too, the executive has invested. If this remains insufficient for the associations, the minister regrets that the measures taken do not go quickly enough but specifies: "We are almost a billion used to protect victims of domestic violence." Élisabeth Moreno also recalls that the government has increased accommodation places by 60%, and has passed four laws in four years. "On these facts which are extremely serious, we must be factual."

There are nearly 200,000 abused women in France.

Steadily increasing numbers.

"You can, without having to lodge a complaint, be protected by the police. The Ministry of Justice is fully engaged as is the Ministry of the Interior. They can lodge a complaint in a town hall, association, among friends , with relatives. We are putting in place as many measures as we can so that the victims feel systematically heard, protected and supported ", insists Elisabeth Moreno.

"They are not alone," recalls the minister.

Today, only 20% of women report domestic violence they experience.

If you are a witness or victim of domestic, gender-based or sexual violence, you can contact 3919 (free call from a landline or mobile) open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

The call is anonymous and does not appear on phone bills.

You can also report this violence online on the public service website, which also offers a search engine to find a nearby police station or gendarmerie, which has an obligation to take your complaint.
