The United States and Japan expressed strong concerns about North Korea's nuclear and missile activities on the 6th local time and reaffirmed their commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.



The US and Japan issued a joint statement right after the foreign and defense ministers (2+2) meeting held over video on the same day, saying, "The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and urged North Korea to implement UN Security Council resolutions." said.



They also noted that they "expressed strong concerns about North Korea's advanced nuclear and missile development activities and confirmed the need for an immediate resolution of the abduction issue."



"We are committed to deepening trilateral or bilateral cooperation between the United States, Japan and South Korea that is important for common security, peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond," he said.



This day's US-Japan 2+2 summit is the first in 10 months since the meeting was held face-to-face in Tokyo, Japan in March of last year, and it is the first since the Kishida administration took office in Japan.



The meeting was attended by Secretary of State Tony Blincoln and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin from the United States, and Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi from Japan.
