Tens of thousands of people took to the streets nationwide on Monday evening to protest against the corona protective measures.

At the partly unannounced events, the police said they usually intervened when, contrary to the Corona requirements, marches were formed, distances were not maintained and the participants did not wear mouth and nose protection.

In Magdeburg, Rostock and in Lichtenstein, Saxony, there were violent clashes between the police and protesters.

According to the police, 200 people had formed a parade in the small town of Lichtenstein, located between Chemnitz and Zwickau.

Around 60 violent people were separated in order to determine their identities.

They tried several times to break through barriers and massively attacked officials.

In addition, participants sprayed irritants.

One person tried to steal the service weapon from an officer and one policeman was bitten.

A total of 14 emergency services were injured.

The police had used pepper spray and reports of dangerous physical harm and assault on a law enforcement officer had been filed.

There were also protests in numerous other Saxon cities.

According to the police, around 1,400 people took to the streets in Dresden alone.

In Freiberg, protesters had broken a police chain, a man had been temporarily arrested and a case of breach of the peace was opened.

According to the police, around 2,500 people in Magdeburg followed calls to protest.

Individuals tried to break through police barriers, pyrotechnics were ignited and a bottle was thrown in the direction of the emergency services.

The police used batons.

Nine suspects are being investigated for assault, breach of the peace and resistance to law enforcement officers.

One person was provisionally arrested after assaulting police officers.

The police also used batons in Rostock in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where up to 4,000 people protested.

Again right-wing groups and violent football supporters took part in the protest, the police said.

For Thuringia, the police reported protests with more than 17,000 participants in Erfurt, Gera, Ilmenau, Jena, Nordhausen, Saalfeld and Meiningen, among others.

In Sömmerda, a group of around 50 people opposed police measures, pepper spray was used and dismissals were issued.

In Gera, "individuals from the right-wing scene" were among the demonstrators.

After a so-called “walk”, demonstrators also gathered in front of the ZDF capital city studio in Berlin.

According to eyewitnesses, there were repeated “lying press” shouts from the crowd.
