Subways, trains, and even school buses ... The Omicron variant spares no means of transport.

Contaminated, many drivers are on sick leave.

Result: on the rails as on the road, the absenteeism rate climbs on average to 15%.

In Moselle, 177 coach drivers are missing.

The effects of the epidemic recovery are being felt everywhere, even in transport.

The offer is indeed reduced in Ile de France, in Normandy, in the North and the Great West, with railway workers and drivers in isolation because contaminated by the Covid.

On the rails and on the road, the absenteeism rate climbs on average to 15%.

No region spared

Among the most spectacular examples, there is the case of school bus drivers in Moselle.

177 are missing, said the Grand Est region, schedules and routes have been changed, but in these tense jobs, it is difficult to find replacements available immediately.

No region is spared.

As for the SNCF, the impact is not felt on the TGV, but a little on the TER or transport plans are slightly revised downwards: 15% less traffic on the internal lines of Normandy, for example , less 10% in Hauts-de-France and less 7% in Brittany, where adaptation is daily, explains Michèle Legallais, on-call manager for the region.

"We have indeed an increase in our absenteeism due to Covid. We have adapted our organization. When we are missing a driver, we will look for another driver on another day that we will redistribute otherwise," she explains on Europe 1.

Decrease in transport use with teleworking

In Ile de France, the region noted an absenteeism rate up 6% in transport.

Not enough to severely disrupt traffic in trains, buses or subways, which will in any case be less frequented with the strengthening of teleworking which, in general, reduces attendance by 20 to 30% depending on the region.
