Sudanese Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok announced his resignation on Sunday (January 2), less than two months after returning to power under a political agreement reached with the military, and after a coup d'état followed by a crackdown that has kills 56 in the country.

"I tried my best to prevent the country from sliding towards disaster, while today it is going through a dangerous turning point which threatens its survival (...) in view of the fragmentation of political forces and conflicts between the components (civilian and military) of the transition (...) Despite everything that has been done to reach a consensus (...) this has not happened ", he argued in particular in his address to the nation.

He added in a televised speech that a meeting was needed to reach a new deal for the country's political transition.

Abdallah Hamdok was dismissed on October 25 after a coup led by the army.

He had returned to his post a month later under the terms of a disputed political agreement with the junta, which had pledged to release all political prisoners.
