In Russia, it is Vladimir Poutine who gives the signal of the new year.

The wishes of the Russian president are broadcast just before midnight and very followed by the country.

But for once, no threatening political messages or overtones, just a tradition and a discourse that is as consensual as possible.

This is the advantage, or rather one of the advantages, of a country as immense as Russia.

While it is only 3 p.m. in Kaliningrad, it is already midnight in Kamchatka.

And thanks to the magic of the internet, the rest of the country discovers eight hours in advance, the content of Vladimir Putin's presidential vows.

Traditionally, this is one of the highlights of New Year's celebrations, and it may also be the one Putin appearance that doesn't need political sense.

Rather a ceremonial, broadcast just before midnight, that we listen to with a distracted ear while preparing to blow the corks of "champanskoye".

Kremlin chime

For a few minutes, the Russian president looks back on the past year, awards the Nation and himself a satisfaction for a year "

spent with dignity

 ".

He congratulates himself on having "

defended the security of the country

" and "

restored the economy

", particularly thanks the soldiers, doctors, police officers and officials, wishes love, good health and success to all, and then leaves room for Kremlin chime.

Then the national anthem sounds and the New Year begins in Russia.
