Iraq .. the dismissal of the police chief of Babylon .. and the opening of an investigation into the "Jableh" incident

On Friday, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior dismissed the police chief of Babil Province, while the security forces arrested a number of officers in connection with a security operation in a village in the region whose circumstances are not yet clear, but it ended with the death of 20 people from one family.

The tragedy occurred in the village of Al-Rasheed in Babil Governorate in central Iraq, when a joint force of intelligence and special missions raided a house.

The Cabinet's Security Media Cell said in a statement Thursday night that the security forces were pursuing "two suspects accused of terrorism in the Jableh area, north of Babil Governorate," adding that "after tightening the noose around them, they opened indiscriminate fire on the security forces."

The statement spoke of "opening an investigation on the background of finding a number of bodies of citizens in a house in the area."

And the Iraqi News Agency quoted the local security authorities in Babil as saying in a statement that "a security force from the Swat forces, with judicial approval, surrounded the house, whose owner refused to surrender, and after the security force managed to enter the house, it found that all 20 members of his family were martyred while they were inside the house".

The circumstances of what happened are not yet clear, but the Minister of Interior Othman Al-Ghanimi, who inspected the scene of the incident, decided to "remove the police chief of Babil Governorate, against the background of the incident that occurred yesterday, which resulted in a number of victims," ​​according to a statement.

The statement stated that the minister directed "the formation of a specialized investigation committee to investigate the force that carried out the duty in this incident."

A statement by the Security Media Cell stated on Friday that "the National Security Agency will investigate the file of this case in coordination with the Court of Appeal of Babil Governorate."

The statement added that "a number of officers and people were arrested in connection with this incident," without giving details of their identities.
