The alarm came to the rescue service at 19.30 on New Year's Eve.

It had then started to burn in a villa in Klintehamn on Gotland.

- One person has been taken to hospital and it is not possible to save the villa.

We will let the villa burn down in an orderly manner, says Tobias Åkesson, commanding officer at the Rescue Service.

The person who was taken to hospital had severe burns.

He had nevertheless gotten out of the house himself when the Rescue Service arrived.

But much is still unclear about how the fire started and whether possibly more people may have been in the house.

It is unclear if more were in the house

A person who was registered at the address has been managed by the police.

That person has been in another place and is unharmed.

But the police do not rule out that additional people could have been in the house.

- It has not been possible to hear this person who was taken to hospital.

So it has not been possible to clarify yet how many were in the house, says Helena Boström Thomas, spokesperson for the police.
