  • Covid-19 Sánchez justifies in the "balance" between health and economic growth not taking more measures against omicron

No autonomous community has planned to delay going back to school to stop the contagion of Covid-19 by omicron, but at least seven are open to also adopt other measures such as blendedness (Community of Madrid) or force to always wear the mask outdoors ( Asturias). The changes will take place in the meeting that on January 4 will bring together the Government with the regional representatives of Education, Universities and Health. Extremadura asks that "a joint decision" be adopted throughout Spain and that "a single criterion" be established.

EL MUNDO has asked the 17 autonomous communities about their school plans for after vacation.

They are all optimistic, they look "better" than last year and are confident that, with the advancement of pediatric vaccines, the incidence will be reduced over the next few days.

The Government also believes this, which explains that almost a third of children are immunized and expects that "practically all" will be there during January.

The quarantined classrooms (1,158 in Infant and 1,842 in Primary) are concentrated where students have not received doses, while in those of those over 12 years of age (ESO, Baccalaureate and FP) there are just over a hundred confined classes , which would show the effectiveness of the campaign.

This is also the thesis of Galicia - which expects a second shipment in January with 72,000 doses, in addition to the existing 60,000, which would protect 132,000 of 150,000 schoolchildren - and of the Valencian Community, which during Christmas is putting the third dose to his teachers.

Madrid, vaccines and test

In any case, Madrid is studying going from the current scenario 1, of total presence, to scenario 2, where blendedness is contemplated with alternate shifts -some days at school and other days at home- in 3rd and 4th year of ESO and in 1st year. and 2nd year of Baccalaureate, since the interpersonal distance would be increased to 1.5 meters again.

The final decision will be made public on Monday and President Isabel Díaz Ayuso also plans to reinforce vaccination and antigen tests among younger children.

Asturias, for its part, is working on modifying the current protocol, although it will not make major changes because, as explained by the Ministry of Education, "the regulations themselves are already quite strict." But some "tweaks" will be introduced. For example, the use of the mask in the patios will have to be adapted to the new state law, because until now the children could be without it if they kept a distance of 1.5 meters, but now they will have to wear it at all times.

The Balearic Islands predicts "news for all the autonomous communities" at the meeting on the 4th, while Navarra anticipates that "it will abide by the measures that are taken". Also in Extremadura they are shown "prepared for any scenario, since they have the technical means in case it is necessary to return to distance classes at some point". "We will follow the recommendations of the health authorities and, if they determine that it is not safe to return to classrooms in person, they will bet on the

online

training model,

" they indicate in the Canary Islands.

Castilla-La Mancha does not rule out anything either because, since the centers are closed these days, it does not have numbers of contagions between teachers and students.

"It will be the health authorities that advise taking the necessary measures based on the data that there is," say sources from the Castilian-Manchega Ministry of Education.

Macro parties, yes;

but school, right?

In any case, the slogan continues to be to bet on presence first and none of these regions sees it as a good solution to leave the children at home after the 10th. "Are macro parties allowed at the end of the year and the children don't go to be able to go to school? "Asked sources from an autonomous community.

Nobody understands a closure of educational centers at a time when the hotel industry continues.

Not even this time the unions have asked to delay the return to the classroom, as on previous occasions, although they do demand changes in the protocols to reduce the ratio, increase distances and reinforce the numbers.

"There is no extraordinary measure at the moment on the table. The planned calendar is maintained: we return on the 10th. The school is the best place where the children can be," they say in Catalonia, the region that has adopted the restrictions these days tougher.

The Basque Country also confirms that they will return on the 10th.

In Castilla y León they explain that this course "all kinds of measures have been taken", such as maintaining the meter and a half, putting carbon dioxide meters in all classrooms or hiring 1,350 more teachers, to guarantee attendance.

The schools maintain the measures

"While in the rest of society the measures were lowered when there were improvements in the contagion data, the schools have kept masks from the age of six, personal distances, staggered entrances, hygiene and use of hydroalcoholic gel, ventilation", remember in Aragon.

The feeling that the autonomous communities have is that "schools are safe places" (La Rioja), where Covid-19 is detected but not transmitted.

"The protocol has been shown to be very effective and the greatest source of contagion is always external to the centers," they say in Murcia, who will "continue with the measures indicated in the instructions at the beginning of the course."

Cantabria also boasts of "strict protocol" and of having maintained "teaching reinforcement, which is guaranteed until the end of the course."

"At the moment there is no news, the measures and the contingency plans of the centers were already established from the beginning of the course," they point out, along the same lines, in Andalusia.
