China News Agency, Berlin, December 28th from Vienna: On December 27, the political director-general meeting of the Joint Commission on the Comprehensive Agreement on the Iranian Nuclear Issue was held in Vienna, announcing the start of the eighth round of the US-Iran resumption negotiation process.

The meeting was chaired by Mora, Deputy Secretary-General of the European Union’s External Action Agency. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Bagheri, and corresponding officials from Russia, Britain, France and Germany attended the meeting.

Ambassador Wang Qun, Chinese negotiator and permanent representative to Vienna, led a delegation to attend.

Wang Qun said that the parties involved in the Iranian nuclear issue will start the eighth round of negotiations today during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

This in itself fully reflects the sense of urgency of all parties to resume negotiations on compliance.

Wang Qun pointed out that despite different interpretations of the seventh round of negotiations, China, like most of the participants, believed that the negotiations had achieved positive results.

The parties have formed a new "common text" on nuclear issues and a "common understanding" on the issue of sanctions lifting. They agreed to focus on this key issue in the eighth round of negotiations for in-depth negotiations.

These consensuses laid a solid foundation for this round of negotiations.

Wang Qun emphasized that at present, relevant parties must focus on consensus, especially the consensus that is being formed, and work hard to expand consensus on this basis.

At the same time, we must properly handle differences.

With regard to the Iranian nuclear and related non-proliferation issues, we cannot engage in pragmatism and double standards out of self-interest; we cannot threaten sanctions at will, or even impose new sanctions on Iran during negotiations.

It is hoped that all parties can take practical measures to jointly maintain the current momentum and atmosphere of the negotiations and push for an early conclusion of a package plan.

Finally, Wang Qun stated that China will continue to firmly support the United States and Iran in resuming the negotiation process for the implementation of the contract, participate constructively in the follow-up negotiations, and work with all parties to promote the results of the negotiations.
