It was in November this year that two men from Romania were stopped at customs at Lernacken.

Customs had received information from the Danish police who had stopped the van with the dogs without taking any action and sent it on to Sweden.

The vehicle, which was marked as dog transport, was stopped by Swedish customs at Lernacken.

One man must have been annoyed that they would also be checked in Sweden.

Missing document

During the inspection, eleven dogs were found in cages in the van, both puppies and slightly older dogs.

When the dogs' vaccination certificates and passports were to be checked, not much was true.

Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that signatures on some passports were missing and there were incorrect chip numbers in some passports.

The men would also have declared the dogs before arrival, which was never done.

Therefore, it was decided that all dogs would be killed.

Not the first time

During questioning, one of the men said that there were initially 23 dogs when they left Romania, but that they were handed over to new owners along the journey from Romania.

According to both men, they have a company that delivers dogs to private individuals in Sweden, among other places.

The visit in November was not the first.

Interrogations with people who were the buyers of the dogs show that they paid the men for the actual transport of the dogs and that they thought that all documents had been arranged.

Both men are now charged with aggravated smuggling.

They deny crime.
