Reindeer from Jijnjevaerie Sami village were last grazed on Hornslandet during the winters of 2008 and 2007, really tough years when the reindeer were starving to death.
This winter and the last few winters have been difficult with a lack of winter grazing and the Sami village has had to provide support for the reindeer, which is costly.
- I am very happy with the news, says Per-Björn Sparrok, reindeer herder in Jijnjevaerie Sami village.
The County Administrative Board has given its permission for all 1,600 reindeer to graze on Hornslandet, but Per-Björn Sparrok believes that around a thousand reindeer will be allowed to go down.
