• Financing the Canary Islands, Galicia and the Valencian Community are the most affected by the Treasury proposal

After the first year of the pandemic in which the president of the Generalitat Valenciana found the support of the opposition parties, the following waves of Covid not only ended the political consensus, but also accentuated the differences between them and increased the Criticism of the management of the tripartite government led by Ximo Puig.

The arrival of Carlos Mazón to the presidency of the Valencian PP in July, also hardened the discourse of the

popular

against Puig

, whom they accuse of kneeling in front of the Government of Pedro Sánchez on issues such as water or regional financing. But it is precisely this last matter in which Puig and the opposition leader have found a minimal way to reach an agreement.

This was confirmed this Monday by Mazón himself, who

for the first time was received by Puig at the Palau de la Generalitat as president of the PPCV

. Although Mazón did not avoid criticizing the delay in being received, he later stressed the importance of "practicing dialogue as a prelude to agreement." Now, although he presented himself to Puig with a list of proposals of all kinds in which to reach agreements, it was in financing where he found greater receptivity. A matter, by the way, for which he committed the support of Pablo Casado's PP.

"Puig and I agreed to make a common front

," Mazón told reporters.

"I have offered him my ability to dialogue with the national PP to favor an agreement," he insisted, ensuring that the PP will support a reform of regional financing that revolves around the main criterion for the Valencian Community: the population.

The word given by Mazón to the president of the Generalitat is significant in the

new electoral cycle that has just started with the early calling of elections in Castilla y León

.

The PP aspires to reissue its government in a community of the so-called depopulated side, that is, with interests opposed to the Valencian Community in terms of financing.

Despite this, the debate on how the State should distribute the money among the communities will return to the forefront at the beginning of next year, when the different autonomous governments present the amendments to their first proposal to the Ministry of Finance. In the Valencian case,

Puig and Mazón have agreed to meet again in January to agree on this document

, with which the Valencian Government will have the explicit support of the PP for their demands, with all that this implies.

Of course, Mazón preferred not to specify if this support from the PP will mean that the party will not position itself on the side of Galicia or Castilla y León when the time comes: “The population criterion is the most important and the PP in all of Spain also agrees;

then the compensations will come ».

Presidential sources limited themselves to pointing out that "as always, any proposal that favors the whole of Valencian society will be addressed from consensus and maximum agreement."
