The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt, Mostafa Waziri, revealed that his country intends to open the Great Museum near the historical Giza pyramids in the second half of next year, to be the "largest museum of Egyptian civilization in the world."

Waziri indicated, during a seminar at the Egyptian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, that construction work has been completed in the giant museum. Square kilometers).

The Egyptian official added, "We can say that we have completely finished work on the statues that will be displayed in the Grand Museum, and we will open the museum in the second half of 2022."

The Corona pandemic caused the postponement of the “legendary” opening of the Grand Museum, as previously planned by the relevant authorities in Egypt.

During the symposium, Waziri reviewed the excavations and discoveries made by Egypt in the past years, pointing out that work is underway to extract more ancient Egyptian treasures from the ground.

He continued, "What we see above the surface of the earth in Egypt does not exceed 40% of the antiquities contained in the ground. There are more than 50 Egyptian missions working in various sites, and their results have dazzled the world in Luxor, Minya, Sohag, Saqqara, in Cairo, and in the region of the pyramid, and the Lower Egypt region.

Waziri also narrated how Egyptian teams were able to restore very important statues in the Luxor area, including a statue of King Ramses II, who ruled Egypt for 66 years between 1279 and 1212 BC.

Egypt unveiled this statue, which is 12 meters high and weighs 65 tons, in April 2017 as part of a major restoration campaign in Luxor.

Waziri stated that the announcement coincided with World Heritage Day as "a gift from Egypt to the world," noting that he discussed in the UAE ways of cooperation between the two sides in the field of antiquities, expecting that Egyptian-Emirati cooperation in this field "very soon."
