British estimates indicate that 200,000 children in the country are at risk of homelessness this winter, according to the British charity Shelter. are past, are behind on rent payments, or are at risk of being evicted from their homes.

Shelter asserts that 55,000 children, along with their families, have already been evicted from their homes in the past three months.

Kat, a 48-year-old mother of three who lives in Worthing, received an eviction notice on January 18 and has not been able to find another home yet.

In addition to caring for her three children aged between 8 and 15, this trained midwife, who did not give her last name, also looks after a relative who has Parkinson's disease all day long.

"My children have a right to feel safe, they know we are about to become homeless, and this has a direct impact on their mental health," she says.

"It's absolutely horrible, even my eight-year-old son knows we're going to be evicted, and as their mother, I'm completely helpless to provide them housing," she says.

Shelter also confirmed that 71 percent of renting families are struggling to find another home this winter, and says that 21 percent of her children know their family is struggling to pay the rent.

And 11% of families surveyed say their children are worried about being homeless.

"No child should have to worry about losing their home this Christmas, let alone another 200,000 children who are at risk of losing their homes," said Polly Nate, chief executive of the Shelter Foundation.
