Last weekend, Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil praised Ahn Cheol-soo, the candidate of the People's Party, saying that he is "necessary for national development."

Then, People's Power recruited Kyunghee University professor Kim Min-jeon, known as 'Candidate Ahn's mentor', as the joint election committee chairperson, saying, "People with good feelings for Ahn should join the party."

As the bipolar composition of the two sides continued, the huge bipartisan parties paid more attention to the presence of the third candidate than before, seemingly as the background for this hand outreach.

In an opinion poll by the Korea Social Opinion Research Institute last weekend, Ahn's approval rating stood at 7.3%, up 2.7 percentage points from a week ago.

Candidate Ahn's reaction was that he was "not interested in anyone's proposal."
