Ella Jämsén, 17, would have played her first junior world championship with the national team in Linköping and Mjölby in January 2022, but was told in an email the day before Christmas Eve that everything would be canceled.

- It was not a fun Christmas present.

We had been looking forward to this and fought for a long time, it is among the biggest things we can achieve at our age, says Ella Jämsén in the U18 women's national team.

When she is not competing in the national team's World Cup squad, Ella studies at the ice hockey high school in Linköping and also plays in Linköping HC.

Second time

This is the second season in a row that the International Ice Hockey Federation has canceled the U18 World Cup for junior ladies due to the pandemic.

Ella Jämsén understands the reason but still raises the idea of a gender equality issue.

- The boys' U20 WC continues to be played in Canada and ends two days before we would start competing.

Last year they had to continue playing as well, we feel diminished, she explains.

What will you do instead of the World Cup?

- I will have a lot of training with the club team at home and continue to fight there, do the daily work, says Ella Jämsén.

No information has been announced about how long the intended championship will be postponed.
