The student union brought together about ten students from near and far.

Students who, due to the prevailing pandemic, have been forced to either stay or have not been able to be visited by loved ones.

Then there were others who chose to stay so as not to expose relatives to a possible infection.

- If they had not started this project, many students would probably have sat alone, says Scanian Kikki Schwerin-Åkesson, who herself has chosen to isolate herself in Kristianstad.

She continues:

- I knew someone else before.

Everyone seems to be nice and easy to talk to.

In addition to hotel accommodation, it will be a packed day with ice skating, construction of a gingerbread house, "Kalle Anka TV tradition" and Swedish board games for the students.

A packed day

The students come from Iran, China, Italy, Austria and Sweden and almost no one knows each other before.

- We start with a Christmas brunch at the hotel, then it will be skating.

Build a gingerbread house, watch Kalle Anka and then have a joint Christmas dinner at the hotel, says Carl-Filip Rova, who is vice chairman of Kristianstad's student union.

Åhus wind orchestra, a stately spruce and lots of white snow framed the students' tentative attempts at the skating rink on Stora torg.
