The accused, a 49-year-old woman, was charged with a second-degree manslaughter.

She claims that the shooting was a mistake and that she was actually trying to use her electric shock weapon.

Instead, a shot was fired with the service weapon.

- I'm sorry it happened.

"I'm really sorry," the woman said during her testimony last Friday, according to CNN.

Barely a week later, she is now convicted of manslaughter.

Taken out of service

20-year-old Daunte Wright was shot in connection with a traffic control in April this year.

The policewoman was fired after the incident, and later submitted her resignation.

The local police chief also resigned.

Several demonstrations

The case is one in a series of police violence against black people in the United States and has attracted a great deal of attention in the country.

In Minneapolis, the shooting led to a long line of demonstrations.

Hundreds of protesters were met by riot police, and the National Guard was called in.

The fatal shooting occurred just 16 kilometers from the ongoing trial in which a police officer is accused of causing George Floyd's death - the incident that led to the nationwide Black Lives Matter protests.
