“It must be admitted that relations between Moldova and Russia are not the best, especially in comparison with what it was a year ago,” RIA Novosti quoted Dodon as saying.

He expressed the hope that "after the new ambassador leaves for Russia, progress in the diplomatic direction will begin."

Dodon stressed that there are "almost no" economic contacts between Russia and Moldova.

The ex-president noted that he intends to make efforts to improve relations with Russia.

Earlier, the chairman of the pardoning commission in the presidential administration of Moldova, Ion Guzun, proposed declaring the Russian ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Vasnetsov persona non grata.

In his opinion, the Russian diplomat should be expelled from the country, since he took part in the inauguration of the leader of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky.

Later, the press secretary of the President of the country, Sorina Stefarta, said that the administration of the President of Moldova had nothing to do with the proposal to declare Oleg Vasnetsov persona non grata.

On December 10, it was reported that Moldova refused to let a member of the Public Chamber of Russia, Vladimir Zhuravlev, into its territory.
