The National Olympic Committee announced the details of the participation of the UAE delegation in the third Gulf Sports Games, which will be hosted by the State of Kuwait during the period from January 9 to 19, with the participation of 1,500 athletes from six countries.

The UAE will be represented in the Gulf Forum by 222 athletes in 14 individual and team games held in 10 different sports facilities.

The Committee stated in a press conference held yesterday, in the Fazaa Hall of the Ministry of Interior at the headquarters of “Expo 2020 Dubai”, that the UAE delegation participating in the Gulf Games will be headed by the Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, Head of the Executive Office, Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, while the Director of Affairs was named Technical and Sports Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Director of the Sports Delegation.

And the national ice hockey team player, Jumaa Muhammad Al Dhaheri, will have the honor of carrying the country's flag at the opening ceremony of the tournament.

The conference was attended by the Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs of the National Olympic Committee, Engineer Azza bint Suleiman, and the Director of Technical and Sports Affairs of the Committee, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, as well as representatives of the 14 sports federations that will represent the UAE in the third Gulf Games in Kuwait, namely: handball, basketball, ball Volleyball, Judo, Karate, Fencing, Archery, Tennis, Table tennis, Athletics, Ice hockey, Cycling, Swimming, Electronic sports.

Engineer Azza bint Suleiman expressed her pride and the members of the Board of Directors of the National Olympic Committee for the unlimited attention, follow-up, care and support offered by our leadership to sports and athletes, which resulted in many achievements and gains of which we are proud and brag about the whole world.

She said that the participation of the United Arab Emirates in the competitions of the third Gulf Sports Games is a continuation of the Olympic Committee's journey in the journey of representing the country, and made the most precious to see his flag fluttering high on the podiums, based on the vision of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President The National Olympic Committee, and His Highness’s constant affirmation of the importance of investing participation in all forums to establish the lofty principles of the UAE, and to reflect the honorable civilizational levels it has reached, referred to in all fields and sectors.

During the press conference, she reviewed the various data of the course, which includes 78 competitions in all group and individual games listed, and the participation of 222 athletes representing the country, accompanied by 27 coaches, 23 administrators and eight doctors and therapists, emphasizing the need for participants to adhere to the health protocol followed in Kuwait and health measures to prevent the virus. “Covid-19” before travel and after arriving in the country hosting the event.

It also revealed the participation of 15 referees from our sports federations in managing the various games competitions in the tournament.

She pointed out that «the mission participating in the Gulf Games seeks to achieve a better harvest than the previous two participants, as the UAE won 21 colored medals in the first edition, while it won 73 medals in the second edition.

As for the non-participation of the football team, she confirmed that the Football Association has several links that contributed to its decision not to participate in the Gulf wedding.

She stressed the importance of redoubling efforts to raise the flag of the nation on the podiums, and to benefit from participation as a strong station for the upcoming major forums at all levels, whether continental, Olympic and global, with the need to put the name of the nation in the eyes of everyone, and to represent it in an image that reflects its gains and the extent of its advancement and progress among the countries of the world. .

The handball will open the UAE's participation in the third Gulf Sports Games by meeting the Qatari team on the fourth of next January, followed by a confrontation with the basketball team on the seventh of the same month against Bahrain.

"Our Golden Spirit"

The Organizing Committee of the Third Gulf Sports Games in Kuwait announced the holding of the event under the slogan “Our Golden Spirit”, an embodiment of the spirit of brotherhood and honorable competition between the participating athletes.
