The man has been a Social Democratic politician in a municipality in Jönköping County where he had several assignments.
But when it became known that he was a criminal suspect, he first took time out from the assignments, to later resign them completely.
He was sentenced to one year and two months in prison in Jönköping District Court despite his refusal.
- It is a serious crime that does not allow any other punishment than imprisonment despite the fact that the man has not been convicted of a crime before, says Emelie Olsson who is acting councilor at Jönköping District Court.
Withdrawals on 21 occasions
A press release from the district court states that the prosecutor has presented robust evidence at the main trial, at the same time the man has confirmed large parts of the description of the crime and the evidence presented.
It has been investigated that the former municipal politician transferred about one million kronor of the dog organization's assets to a certain account and that from there he has in a short time made extensive withdrawals to pay his own debts, such as staying with the Enforcement Officer.
The withdrawals took place during the years 2015 to 2017 on 21 occasions.
The man must also pay damages to the dog organization of just over one million kronor.
