But no statement came officially postponing the December 24 election.

Parliament and the Election Commission are passing the buck and the responsibility of announcing a postponement.

The absence of an official electoral list of candidates and persistent disagreements between rival camps over the legal basis of the ballot persist.

A situation that could lead the country to new tensions.

These tensions were manifested on Tuesday, December 21 in Tripoli, the Libyan capital, where armed groups loyal to the Minister of Defense were strongly deployed at the entrances to the capital, blocking roads.

Tanks were also deployed.

This situation has led to the closure of several schools and universities.

These armed groups have used the pretext of the possibility of an attack on the capital by other groups in Tripolitania.

Political actors want to keep the status quo

Several independent presidential candidates claim that these armed groups are in fact pushed by political actors who want to keep the

status quo

and stay in power.

Another important development on Tuesday: the visit to Benghazi of several presidential candidates and their meeting with Marshal Haftar.

Among them was former Interior Minister Fathi Bachagha, one of the strongmen of the West.

New alliances appear to be being discussed pending the new election date.

A new sign of the fading of the date of December 24 took place that same day: the electoral commission announced the dissolution of the committees responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the process.
