He no longer hides his annoyance.

As states have passed the bar of 150,000 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,000 daily deaths, Joe Biden banged his fist on the table on Tuesday.

"Almost all of the people who have died in recent months were not vaccinated," the US president warned in a speech.

And to insist: to be vaccinated, with a third booster dose, is "a patriotic duty".

Joe Biden, who campaigned by promising better management of the pandemic than Donald Trump, spoke as the Omicron variant swept across the United States, where it now accounts for nearly three quarters of new cases.

"Immoral" lies

“The unvaccinated are responsible for their own choice.

But this choice was influenced by dangerous disinformation on TV channels and social networks, ”denounced the American president.

According to him, some anti-tax companies and personalities are raking in profits by relaying lies "that can kill their own customers."

" It's bad.

It is immoral.

We must stop immediately.

Side announcements The White House had detailed earlier the strategy of the American president: tests, strengthened vaccination capacities and additional means for hospitals, but no new restrictions before Christmas.

Long queues stretched out at the beginning of the week in front of testing centers across the United States.

The authorities will distribute 500 million tests free of charge and mobilize a thousand doctors, nurses and army medical personnel to speed up vaccination in remote areas.

Lifting travel restrictions

The United States will also give more than half a billion dollars in additional aid to international organizations to fight Covid-19 in the face of the Omicron outbreak.

This new variant represented 73.2% of new Covid-19 contaminations the past week in the United States.

“I don't think anyone expected it to spread so quickly,” Biden said in his remarks Tuesday.

The US president also said he "plans" to lift travel restrictions on eight African countries, with Omicron now spreading around the world.

“I know you are tired.

(…) And I know you are frustrated.

We all want it to be over but we are still right in the middle of it, ”he concluded.
