With our correspondent in Santiago,

Justine Fontaine

Gabriel Boric

insisted on going to the Constituent Assembly on Tuesday, even before meeting the representatives of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

He showed his support for elected officials, who must finish their work in July.

The fact that we are writing for the first time in our republican history a Constitution in democracy, with equality between men and women and with the participation of the indigenous peoples, is a great pride,

declared the new president

.

We place ourselves at their disposal because if the Constituent Assembly works well, Chile too.

 "

As a deputy, Gabriel Boric was one of the architects of the political agreement that led to the election of a Constituent Assembly, mostly on the left.

Tiare Aguilera Hey is elected for the Rapa Nui people, the indigenous people of Easter Island, and one of the vice-presidents of the constitutional convention, the official name of the constituent assembly.

For her, the election of Gabriel Boric is a relief, because relations with the outgoing government have been difficult.

“

We have never had an official meeting with the current president,

underlines Tiare Aguilera Hey

.

So the fact that Gabriel Boric comes here right after his election shows his commitment to the success of this historic process.

 "

The new Constitution will have to be submitted to a referendum at the end of next year.

For his part, Gabriel Boric, 35, assured that his future government will be equal and that it will respect the state's budget balance.

The new president will officially take office on March 11 and is expected to announce the composition of his government before the end of January.
