The Houthi group said today, Tuesday, that Sanaa airport is out of service, after it was subjected to air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

The Undersecretary of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Houthi group, Raed Jabal, denounced the bombing, stressing that the attack aims to impede humanitarian aid provided to the Yemeni people and obstruct the flights of the United Nations and international organizations operating in Yemen, he said.

He called on the United Nations to take immediate action to stop this "systematic" targeting of the airport, which would impede its movements.

On Monday evening, the coalition announced that it launched raids on Sanaa airport after it was used for military purposes by the Houthis.

The coalition spokesman, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, said that the air strikes targeted 6 locations used to launch attacks with drones and booby-trapped planes, training personnel to use them, and the residence of the trainers and trainees, in addition to two warehouses for drones.

Al-Maliki added that the destruction of these targets will not have any effect on the operational capacity of the airport, and will not affect the management of airspace and air traffic.

Since 2016, the coalition has imposed a ban on navigation at Sanaa airport, with the exception of humanitarian flights for the United Nations and other international organizations, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross.

On Sunday, the coalition accused the Houthi group of using this airport to launch drones towards Saudi Arabia, while the group denied using the airport for military purposes.

The Houthis usually launch attacks with drones loaded with explosives and ballistic missiles on targets in southern Saudi Arabia.

For days, the coalition has been intensifying its air strikes against what it says are Houthi-controlled sites in Sanaa.

Yemen has witnessed, for nearly 7 years, a continuous war between the pro-government forces, backed by the coalition, and the Iranian-backed Houthis, who have controlled governorates including Sanaa since September 2014.
