Mexican Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs, Martha Delgado Peralta, described "Expo 2020 Dubai" as the most important event in the world at the present time, noting that participation in the international exhibition is a strategic matter for her country.

She revealed that Mexico is currently developing innovative Emirati initiatives, such as the Global Logistics Passport project, as the UAE is Mexico's 47th trading partner worldwide, and the second in the region.

Martha Peralta added to "Emirates Today", "The UAE is a very important international market, and Mexico can be a strategic partner for the UAE in the agricultural food sector. In this context, progress has been made in entering Mexican agricultural products into the UAE market, and there are negotiations underway to export other agricultural products,” explaining that between 2016 and 2020, bilateral trade recorded an average annual growth rate of 6.7%, from $511 million in 2015 to $705.1 million in 2020.

The Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister said: "It is important that Mexico be present at (Expo 2020 Dubai), as we realize that this event is the center of economic revitalization in the world, because it is the first of its kind since the beginning of the epidemic."

She pointed out that during Mexico's participation in the international exhibition, commercial and investment opportunities are highlighted, in addition to presenting a wide and diverse program of cultural activities and events, with the participation of international artists, musicians, singers, orchestras and international folk dance troupes, as well as works by prominent painters and artists, "The power of our culture is a tool A strategy to promote Mexico to the world.

Historical Relations

Martha Peralta pointed out that there are important and strong historical relations between Mexico and the UAE, adding, "It is very important to understand that (Expo 2020 Dubai) is the most important event in the world today, so we seek to promote our country and open job opportunities for our companies, as well as attract investments to Mexico and the projects that It has been developed by the government, in addition to designing a strong cultural agenda, and building spaces in our pavilion that will facilitate interaction between companies and governments to develop investment and business opportunities.”

And she continued, "One of Mexico's main concerns with regard to (Expo 2020 Dubai) is working to develop business and investment opportunities.

In the early months of the event, the governors of the states of Mexico, Hidalgo, Oaxaca and Yucatan came to Dubai and held meetings with several stakeholders to explore tangible investment opportunities.

Also, many Mexican businessmen were at the fair, and they had important opportunities, which I am sure will become actual projects soon.”

She continued, “We are currently working on developing innovative Emirati initiatives, such as the Global Logistics Passport project, to form part of an international logistics center, which is of particular importance to strengthening bilateral economic relations, with the aim of continuing growth in the short and long term.

There is huge potential in agri-food products, and Mexican companies can take advantage of the opportunities that exist in this sector.”

She pointed to Mexico's strong legislative frameworks, along with an international network of existing treaties that facilitate any kind of investment, and there are other incentives, namely, that Mexico offers countless and vital opportunities for tourism, entertainment and culture, these are some of the reasons why more than a million foreigners have made Mexico is their home.

With regard to trade, she explained, "The UAE is a very important international market, and Mexico can be a strategic partner for the UAE in the agro-food sector.

In this context, progress has been made in the entry of Mexican agricultural products into the UAE market, such as berries, chickpeas, beef, red tomatoes, avocados, fresh asparagus, and others.

She emphasized that “Mexico is the ninth largest international market that attracts foreign direct investment worldwide.

In 2020, we acquired about $27.6 billion in foreign direct investment, and human capital in Mexico is young, productive and specialized. Out of 127 million people, half of the population is 29 years old, and 49.8% of them are in the productive stage.

Martha Peralta explained: “Now, the strategy that we have implemented at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to attract investments that are in line with the sustainable development goals. For this reason, the ministry has recently launched a plan aimed at attracting investment to five industrial sectors, namely: aviation, pharmaceuticals, and wind turbines manufacturing. For energy, petrochemical derivatives, and the agro-industrial sector, specifically for the production of vanilla and chocolate, these sectors enjoy unique advantages due to their geographical location, which gives them strategic access to the US market.

She noted that the modernization of the trade agreement with the United States and Canada has led to the strengthening of economic integration more than ever, and the addition of new commitments on climate change and sustainability issues. the scientist.

For this reason, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs has created a public body specialized in global investment, which oversees the attraction of investment and the promotion of our country abroad in key strategic sectors and projects.
