After the resignation of Brexit negotiator David Frost, Foreign Minister Liz Truss will take over his duties.

The British government announced on Sunday evening.

The forty-six year old is to negotiate with the European Union (EU) about the implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol.

The statement said, according to Sky News, that Truss would immediately assume ministerial responsibility for relations between the UK and the EU.

Frost had justified his departure with concerns about the government's course, including the corona measures.

Frost's resignation came at an inopportune time for Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

He has just suffered a heavy defeat in the North Shropshire by-election and survived a scandal over alleged lockdown Christmas parties in Downing Street.

In addition, corona incidences in the UK are rising rapidly.
