Left-wing candidate Gabriel Boric, a former student activist, has won the presidential election in Chile. Not all votes have been counted, but Boric's ultra-conservative opponent José Antonio Kast has claimed defeat.
With almost 70 percent of the vote counted, Boric led by just over 55 percent.
Before the election, they both stood roughly side by side in the opinion polls.
About 15 million people are eligible to vote in the election, but turnout is usually only around 50 percent.
