The Galician president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has asked this Sunday that the Conference of Presidents called by Pedro Sánchez for Wednesday have "a serious and solid content."

"At the moment it does not have it," he has warned.

In statements to the media after participating in the event organized on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Galician Parliament, Feijóo explained that on Saturday he received the official summons from the Minister of Territorial Policy,

Isabel Rodríguez

, to "talk about the situation and the impact of the omicron variant "and the" foreseeable impact "it will have on the Christmas holidays.

The telematic meeting is "opportune", but it is "essential" that it not simply remain in "a photo". "Gathering to meet is good from the institutional point of view," he said, but "it is sterile" from the point of view of the citizens. "I am in favor of speaking things seriously, of making solid agreements and not simply making comments or taking a photo at the meeting," he said.

In order for the Conference of Presidents to be useful, it considers it necessary to work "beforehand" by the "experts".

"Therefore, I understand that today or at the latest tomorrow, the directors of public health of the autonomous communities and the directors of Health must sit down and establish a draft agreement so that this meeting has some interest and content," he said.

"I hope that between today and tomorrow we can move forward", indicated the Galician president, who has advocated giving "some proposal for citizens" on Wednesday, that is, to "recommend" or to approve some "mandatory" measure to guarantee that these parties are celebrated with the least number of infections.

Pandemic law

On whether he proposes recommendations or obligations, he has responded that he is betting on "a pandemic law."

"It seems to me that the Government has realized that the pandemic has not ended and we continue two years later without any specific legislation," he said.

Feijóo recalled that he was already a supporter in June of implementing a "Covid passport."

"Unfortunately the Government has never wanted to accept a Covid passport and the regional presidents of all colors are making a pilgrimage to the higher courts to be able to extend that Covid passport in our territory."

That said, he has also considered it necessary that, "given that the pandemic is not over", "there is a contingency in the budget for 2022 for the expenditure involved in continuing to manage the pandemic."

"If we are really summoned for another photo, it will be a lost opportunity," said Feijóo.

"If we are summoned to talk about the Covid passport; of legislation, even if it is immediate, by means of a royal decree, to put a bit of order and context; and if we are also summoned to evaluate in some small presentation or commission the impact that is going to have the Covid in year 22, it will be a fruitful meeting, "he said.

If not, he said, "it could be a meeting like the last one in Salamanca" in which "the head of the meeting was given by the president (Sánchez) before starting the meeting."

"I suppose they will not call us so that the president can hold a press conference before the presidents can meet and move forward," he said to ensure that that meeting had "no content or interest."

Catalonia

Also the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, has referred to the need to address the maintenance of Covid funds in 2022. Aragonès, who will participate in the Conference of Presidents, has regretted that the meeting will not be held earlier, "given the proximity of the Christmas holidays ".

In addition to transferring to Sánchez the Government's position to address the pandemic situation, the Catalan president will ask for "greater clarity" in the messages to the citizens, and will insist on maintaining the Covid-19 funds in 2022.

Cantabria

The Government's statement indicates that it hopes that the meeting will be "useful" and serve to decide in a coordinated way.

This coordination has been highlighted by the Cantabrian president, for whom the Conference was "badly needed"

Miguel Ángel Revilla

hopes to adopt "shared measures" for all of Spain.

"That there is no autonomy that bypasses them," he said, trusting that "the majority will be accepted democratically" of the regional presidents who meet on Wednesday

"We have to take a common measure throughout Spain, it is useless if some measures are taken in some places and others because the virus circulates and people circulate," he insisted.

The regional president has regretted the different responses of the courts to the same measures, such as the night closing hours, which "the judges have pushed back here and, however, in Galicia they have accepted it as good."

"Let's see if we are capable on Wednesday of all getting to take the same measures, that we are facing a pandemic, we are risking the future of the country's economy and the lives of the people," concluded the secretary general of

the Regionalist Party of Cantabria (PRC)

.

Canary Islands

From the Canary Islands,

Ángel Víctor Torres

has also insisted on unity of action.

"This call was necessary. The presidents will speak and I hope that at the end, in a unity of action of all the communities. Let us work hand in hand," said the Canarian president.

Asked about the difference in measures applied in different Autonomous Communities, the socialist leader has indicated that he pointed out that this is due to co-governance, which has been demanded by the autonomies.

In his opinion, there must be a common rule that regulates and then each government take a step to one side or the other.

Murcia

From Murcia, its president, the

popular

Fernando López Miras, asked this Sunday if the Prime Minister "is going to propose something" at the Conference of Presidents.

In his opinion, Pedro Sánchez's institutional statement has been "empty, empty words."

Miras explained that he expected Sánchez to be in line with the great European leaders, "to lead the current situation, to assume his responsibility and exercise that commitment to lead a country at a difficult time because we are at extreme risk."

"Unfortunately it has not been like that and we have been able to attend, surprised, to an intervention with empty, empty words".

The Murcian president has insisted that Sánchez's intervention "has been more of the same", he has not said "anything new" about vaccination, nor "the only thing he could have said: that the third dose be authorized for the entire population. in Spain".

To say that vaccination is going well, he said, "the Conference of Presidents is not necessary."

López Miras has wished that "there is a coordination proposal" in the Conference of Presidents.

"If the situation continues, decisions will have to be made."
