The Iranian ambassador leaves Sanaa

A high-ranking Saudi official announced that the Iranian ambassador to Yemen left the Yemeni capital Saturday on an Iraqi plane, which the Saudis allowed to land and take off from Sanaa airport.

The departure of the Iranian ambassador came at the request of the Houthi militia and under ambiguous circumstances, as the reasons behind the Houthis' desire for the ambassador's departure were not clear.

"He left on an Iraqi plane and may now be in Baghdad," the official told AFP, adding that Riyadh's agreement to allow his departure came after Iraqi and Omani mediation.
