China News Service, Washington, December 18. Qin Gang, Chinese Ambassador to the United States, said on the 17th that China and the United States should work together to address global issues and jointly manage the risks posed by emerging technologies.

Cooperation can create greater benefits for the two peoples, and hindering cooperation will harm the interests of both parties.

Qin Gang made the above remarks in an interview with "Science and Diplomacy" on the 17th.

He said that China-US scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation have played an important role in promoting the healthy development of bilateral relations and are an important part of China-US relations.

Qin Gang introduced that for more than 40 years, China and the United States have signed more than 30 protocols/agreements under the framework of the Sino-US Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement, covering more than 20 sub-fields, covering health, climate change, ecological protection, and nuclear Security and other fields.

He pointed out that China and the United States should work together to tackle global issues and jointly manage the risks posed by emerging technologies.

Cooperation can create greater well-being for the people of the two countries, and it can also enable all mankind to better cope with the future full of unknowns.

Obstacles to cooperation, including various restrictions on Chinese scientists and students studying abroad, will harm the interests of both parties.

Qin Gang emphasized that the goal of China's diplomacy today is to maintain world peace and promote the common development of mankind.

China pays more attention to the important role of science and technology in diplomacy.

For example, in the aerospace field, China is willing to carry out international cooperation in the aerospace field on the basis of mutual respect, openness, inclusiveness, equality and mutual benefit with other countries in the world.

Entering the stage of the space station, we will continue to increase the development of more extensive and in-depth international cooperation in the fields of space station function expansion, space science and applications, joint flight of Chinese and foreign astronauts, and the transformation of technological achievements.

China is soliciting cooperative experimental projects from all the member states of the United Nations that are intended to be carried to the Chinese space station.

At present, 9 projects from 17 countries have been selected, and China will also release the second round of cooperation opportunity announcements in due course.

Qin Gang said that facing the challenge of the epidemic of the century, China is actively sharing epidemic information, exchanging anti-epidemic experience with all parties, and strengthening international joint research and development cooperation in vaccines, drugs, and testing.

At present, China has provided more than 1.8 billion doses of vaccines to more than 100 countries and international organizations, and will provide more than 2 billion doses to the outside world this year.

China has also launched the "Belt and Road" vaccine partnership initiative with 30 countries to promote the equitable global distribution of vaccines.

China hopes that China and the United States can strengthen cooperation in anti-epidemic science and technology to help the world completely overcome the epidemic at an early date.

Qin Gang said that China and the United States have huge room for cooperation in the field of climate change.

Both countries account for more than 80% of fossil energy consumption, and have become the two fastest-growing countries in the world in terms of renewable energy, and both require breakthroughs in clean energy technology.

The Sino-US Clean Energy Joint Research Center (CERC), as a typical example of Sino-US clean energy research cooperation, has produced many important mutually beneficial results in the past ten years.

Although this project has now been terminated, China hopes that China and the United States can find a new cooperation model in the field of clean energy.
