27 November 2019Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group) has been awarded the Madrid - Barcelona, ​​Madrid - Valencia / Alicante and Madrid - Malaga / Seville high-speed services.

The Ilsa consortium, made up of Trenitalia and Air Nostrum, according to a note, was selected by Adif, the Spanish railway infrastructure manager, as the first private operator to enter the Iberian market.

The commencement of the commercial service is scheduled for January 2022 and will last for ten years.



10 years of experience in the service of Spain

The FS Italiane Group is a primary international player, ready to to face the challenges for tenders in the American market after the award of both the railway services between London and Edinburgh, operational since December 9 in Great Britain, and the high-speed project in Thailand ", added the manager.



The offer for Spain


The Ilsa consortium will offer 32 daily connections on the Madrid - Barcelona route (16 in each direction). The Madrid - Valencia route will have eight connections per day, seven will be those between Madrid and Malaga and between Madrid and Seville. From Madrid to Alicante, on the other hand, there will be four daily connections, which can be increased during the peak summer weeks. The train chosen by Ilsa is the Frecciarossa 1000 manufactured with eco-sustainable technologies and equipped with an aerodynamic design. The five routes awarded will be served thanks to a fleet of 23 trains.



The international Trenitalia network


Trenitalia is present with subsidiaries in Great Britain with Trenitalia c2c (commuter transport) and Trenitalia Uk which from 9 December 2019 will manage InterCity services from London to Glasgow / Edinburgh (West Coast Partnership); in Germany with Netinera (passengers); in France with Thello (international connections Italy - France) and in Greece with TrainOse (passenger services). The Frecciarossa 1000, the flagship train of Trenitalia's fleet and the fastest in Europe, was designed and built according to the international interoperability technical specifications that allow the train to circulate on multiple European networks. It is the first high-speed train to have obtained environmental impact certification and is built with almost 100% recyclable and reusable materials, as well as having reduced water and electricity consumption.
