"This is the last League of Nations in this format. From 2024, the Conmebol (South American Football Confederation) will join the competition," Boniek said in an interview with Polish site Meczyki.
"I do not know yet in what format, we are working on it" he added, estimating that the participation of South American countries "will make the League of Nations more important".
"UEFA is working on a number of projects with Conmebol, including a common League of Nations, but nothing has yet been done," however, a UEFA spokesperson told AFP.
Boniek, who played for Juventus Turin in the 1980s alongside Michel Platini, was also Poland coach.
This year he left his post as president of the Polish Football Association, which he had held since 2012, to join UEFA.
