A spectacular fire broke out this Thursday morning at the Hutchinson factory in Châlette-sur-Loing (Loiret), near Montargis.

A fire broke out in a tire gum workshop, reports France Bleu Orléans.

About fifty firefighters intervened and fought against the flames for three hours.

A little more than 600 people were evacuated from the site and no injuries were to be deplored.

Samples taken

In addition, five schools located on the outskirts of the company were confined.

The students were able to leave their classes at the beginning of the afternoon.

Huge traffic jams formed in the area after the workers left and the huge plume of black smoke was seen for miles around.

In a press release, the Loiret prefecture specifies that "only material damage" was observed at Hutchinson.

The activity of the factory should resume normally this Friday.

"Samples will be taken to characterize the impact of any fallout in the environment," state services indicate.
