Under the following RB360º is the sustainability plan promoted by the Barceló brand, which places special focus on the manufacturing processes of its products and on how to reduce polluting gas emissions throughout its value chain. Although this fight is not new for the brand, founded in 1929, since since 2016 it has been part -voluntarily- of the Carbon Neutral procedure. In fact, the firm became in 2019 the first rum in the world to obtain the Certified Carbon Neutral & ISO14067 with a Bilan Carbone® license.

This was the first base that has now given rise to RB360º, a plan that includes all the brand's references and gathers all its policies ... which will be sustainable and committed to the environment or they will not be. One of the most visible consequences for consumers is the launch of the first 100% organic Dominican rum whose main strength is, according to Ana Suárez, Brand Ambassador of the brand in Spain, "the cultivation of organic sugar cane." And it is that its cultivation, distillation and aging is natural and careful with its environment.

In the wild cane field where it is grown -in the Dominican Republic- no pesticides, fertilizers or irrigation systems are used.

On the other hand, you can hear the course of the water of the river that defines it, a short distance from the distillery where it is made.

During the distillation process of this new rum, 100% renewable thermal energy and 83% electrical energy of photovoltaic origin are used;

and it is aged in oak barrels without previous use.

Furthermore, as part of this commitment to nature and the environment, Organic's annual production is "limited," adds Suárez, and reaches the shelf with eco-friendly packaging.

A case and label made from the vegetal fiber left over from the extraction of sugar cane and a 100% recyclable glass container maintain the taste and quality of the product, and the environmental health.

A 100% sustainable bet

Because enjoying aromas of caramelized cherry and cocoa, indulging in a fruity and smooth flavor, is a pleasure for consumers, but also a respite from the climate crisis.

And it is that Barceló Organic, the most sustainable bet of the Dominican rum brand, takes care of each of the processes that give life and thus gives meaning to the brand's sustainability plan.

A program that has already achieved that Ron Barceló has stopped emitting more than 31,500 tons of CO2 per year (those that it cannot, it compensates 100%) and that, in its commitment to promoting green energy, it has been achieved a 21% decrease in the use of diesel at the Ron Barceló plant since 2018.

The company, in turn, is working on "the supply of electricity from renewable energy, which currently stands at 83%, until it reaches 100% in our production plants", explains Vinicio Subero, Global Business Director of Ron Barceló, who adds that the brand's objective is "to reduce our controlled emissions by at least 20% by 2030 compared to 2015, the base year for quantifying emissions, thus complying with the 2030 agenda."

In fact, the RB360º strategic plan is based on four indications aligned with four of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Thus, Field, Water, Territory and Air carefully take care of the effect of the company on the ground, the future of water resources, the repercussions on the landscape and the local community and, finally, the emissions of polluting gases, especially those greenhouse effect.

As Alex Dakov, CEO of Agua NEA and Green Motive and sustainability specialist, says, "RB360º really is a benchmark within the distillate industry".

And it is, according to the expert, because "it goes beyond a sustainability plan, which is not only carbon neutral, but also impacts all production processes, from cultivation to final delivery to the customer. This means that , really, be a 360 sustainability plan ".
