Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Kaneko regretted that the information was not properly managed because Japan Post lost personal information for a total of 214,000 people, including customers who traded government bonds and investment trusts. He expressed his intention to prevent recurrence.

The problem is that more than 6,500 post offices have lost documents such as government bond and investment trust transactions, and the lost personal information is for a total of 214,000 people.

Regarding this, Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Kaneko said at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, "It is regrettable that a large amount of customer information was not properly managed at the post office, which plays a social and public role."

On top of that, Minister Kaneko said, "Since no information leaks or damage to customers have been confirmed at this time, we are not considering taking administrative sanctions, but we will pay close attention to the situation such as recurrence prevention measures."

According to Japan Post, it is highly possible that the related documents were accidentally discarded before the retention period required by the company regulations expired, so we will proceed with the conversion of documents into data in the future.
