Earlier, they had hoped for a solution by Saturday, but that will not happen.

- It is a very difficult problem to solve and we have now brought in expert help who have been involved in this type of attack before.

It is a huge challenge and solving this means a much more extensive work than we could ever have imagined, says Maria Henriksson, municipal director of Kalix, to TT.

The decision on the changed schedule was made on Friday night.

Manually operated

This means that the critical systems for home health care and home care services are still largely unavailable, even though they have now managed to obtain medication lists and planning for home care services via backup copies.

It was during the night towards Thursday that the municipality was exposed to an IT attack that, among other things, affected all community services.

The operations have been transferred to handle the work analogously, which according to Maria Henriksson has worked well under the circumstances.

- Everything is running as usual, it's just that most things are done manually instead of digitally.

"Mine clearance"

As for the work with the IT systems, however, it looks gloomier.

- We are still working on what my IT manager calls demining because we have not yet found the origin of the situation that has arisen.

When the entire system can be up and running again is unclear, but is estimated to take several weeks.

The attack was a so-called ransomware attack, ie an extortion virus where hackers lock a computer system with a ransom requirement to unlock it again.

Kalix municipality has previously announced that it will not pay any money.

The police classify the incident as a serious data breach.
