An Israeli was killed and two others were shot dead in an attack on a car near a Jewish settlement in the West Bank.

An Israeli doctor said on Thursday that a young man died from his serious injuries.

According to its own statements, the Israeli army was looking for suspects around the crime scene.

According to the rescue workers, the three Israelis' vehicles had been shot at in the north of the West Bank near the Shawei Shomron settlement near the city of Nablus.

The driver of the car and another inmate suffered "minor" injuries and were taken to hospital.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Israeli soldiers had blocked access to Nablus.

Hundreds of drivers were stuck on nearby roads.

Several attacks in the past few weeks

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett condemned the "terrible" attack in a statement released by his office.

"The security forces will get their hands on the terrorists very soon," he promised.

"We will continue to take all necessary measures against the terrorist groups in this area," said Defense Minister Benny Gantz.

The attack follows a series of incidents over the past few weeks.

Most recently, a Palestinian girl was arrested after allegedly attacking an Israeli woman in East Jerusalem with a knife.

In the West Bank, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967, there are repeated fatal clashes, especially between Palestinians and Jewish settlers.

About 2.8 million Palestinians and 475,000 Jewish settlers live in the West Bank.
