"National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan spoke by phone today with the Russian President's Foreign Policy Advisor Yuri Ushakov," the White House website said in a statement.

Sullivan reiterated the concern of the United States over the alleged build-up of Russian military forces on the border with Ukraine.

He also assured his interlocutor of the United States' desire to resolve security and strategic issues through diplomatic means.

The message also announces consultations between US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried with American NATO allies, which will be held in Brussels on December 16.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov discussed with Donfried the topic of security guarantees in the context of the NATO alliance's attempts to "change the military-political situation in Europe in its favor."
