The Madrid City Council has activated the protocol for high pollution episodes and from six in the morning of this Thursday

it will not be possible to circulate at more than 70 km / h

on the M-30 and its accesses.

In addition, the use of public transport is recommended as much as possible.

The decision was adopted after the Ramón y Cajal and Ensanche de Vallecas stations registered very poor air quality this Wednesday.

Drivers who violate the speed limit set on the ring road face

fines of 90 euros

.

If pollution levels worsened in the coming days, the

second scenario

of measures

would be activated

, which includes the prohibition of circulation within the M-30 and parking in the SER zone for vehicles that do not have the Zero or ECO environmental label. .

The

next phase

will include the suspension of traffic throughout the municipal term to vehicles without a tag and it would be recommended that taxis remain stopped when they are not transporting customers.

Finally, the

last scenario

would extend the prohibition of circulation on the M-30 to motor vehicles with the DGT's B environmental badge.

In any case, the population would be notified in advance.

It is the first time that the anti-pollution protocol has been activated in Madrid so far this autumn.
