The EU's infection control authority ECDC warned earlier today that the omicron variant will in all probability lead to increased hospitalizations and deaths in the future.

According to the ECDC's forecast, omicron will dominate the spread of infection within two months.

Additional national measures may be needed to stop the spread of infection.

One measure already used in many countries is covidpass.

In Sweden, it has been the case since 1 December that you can present a vaccination certificate to attend major events such as football matches or concerts.

In the past, the government and the Swedish Public Health Agency presented additional infection control measures that can be taken if the situation worsens, and the government has sent out a proposal to extend the use of vaccination certificates in Sweden.

"Very risky"

Peter Wennblad, lead writer at Svenska Dagbladet does not like the vaccine passport requirement.

- It is ill-considered, wrong and dangerous, he says in Aktuellt and believes that the government and the Public Health Agency have been unclear about what they really want to achieve with the vaccine passports.

To introduce vaccine passes is to go over a "principle limit" which Wennblad believes is very risky.

- To rate people's freedoms and rights based on their medical status, I think you should be extremely restrictive.

"The alternative is not full freedom for all, but no freedom for anyone"

Hanne Kjöller, editorial writer at Dagens Nyheter, does not want to see the type of vaccine requirements that exist in some other countries.

- Compulsory vaccination is a limit you do not cross.

My attitude is that you must have freedom, but you must also take the consequences of your choices, she says in Aktuellt.

- If you are against vaccine passes, what are you for?

The alternative to vaccination passes is not full freedom for everyone, but no freedom for anyone, says Kjölller and adds that the spread of infection is now so alarming that this is what we are facing.
