According to Nils Ternéus, all boats in commercial traffic must listen to channel 16 and there he heard the radio traffic about the ship accident between Ystad and Bornholm.

- I heard Sweden rescue shout on the British ship after they received an emergency alarm from the Danish.

The British could not give any straightforward messages, so they continued to drive, says Nils Ternéus.

According to him, Sweden rescue had asked if they had collided and received the answer "We may have collided or it was close to a collision".

- Then Sweden rescue asked them to turn around and check if there was an accident.

Given the damage to the Danish ship, they must have noticed a collision.

Dark and foggy

Nils Ternéus says that it was dark and foggy out at sea.

He also followed the accident on a website where you can follow the boat traffic.

- The Danish ship drove in a southwesterly direction and kept the course.

What caused the accident was that the British ship turned right towards the Danish ship.

You may not do this when you are obliged to give way, but you must give priority and in this case to the Danish ship.

The picture shows the ships' courses where the bottom circle shows the Danish ship.
