A bus accident in the Amazon region of Ecuador left 18 people dead on Saturday evening.
"According to information provided by the staff of the MSP (Ministry of Public Health), 25 people were injured," the Ecuadorian emergency and rescue coordination service, ECU911, added in a statement.
Accident on a highway
The tragedy occurred on a highway in the municipality of Huambi, in the city of Sucúa, in the south-east of the country and on the border with Peru.
The national police indicated that the accident had occurred after "one exit of the lane, with collision and overturning".
The injured were taken to hospitals in the provincial capital Macas and Sucúa.
The bodies of the deceased passengers were entrusted to the morgues of these same establishments.
