The UAE government and the World Health Organization have launched a partnership to support the global health sector, under which the organization will adopt the UAE government accelerators model, to accelerate the achievement of its strategic goals and initiatives aimed at enhancing the health sector, health care and quality of life, and expanding the range of health services provided in various countries of the world.

The launch of the partnership came through a memorandum of understanding signed by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Muhammad Abdullah Al-Gergawi, and the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in the presence of the Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, Ohoud bint Khalfan Al-Roumi, and the Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs. Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Strategy, Huda Al Hashemi, and a number of officials in the UAE government and the World Health Organization.

The partnership aims to enhance service delivery initiatives in the fields of health and health care at the global level, by adopting the UAE government's model in government accelerators to accelerate the implementation of initiatives and develop solutions and projects aimed at improving the health sector and the health care sector around the world, building capabilities and preparing competencies.

Al Gergawi added that the UAE government’s partnership with the World Health Organization represents a new step in strengthening and enabling global human capital to set new directions for the future, and the beginning of the formation of the landmarks of an integrated global pact that celebrates innovation for health, and enhances the cooperation of countries, governments, and organizations, in order to build sustainable communities.

For his part, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stressed the importance of the need for comprehensive global cooperation between international organizations and governments to support the use of scientific data in finding solutions to the various challenges facing societies, specifically the “Covid-19” pandemic, noting that WHO The World Health Organization is committed to modernizing its work system, developing its competencies, and promoting the use of data to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals.

Intensify efforts to provide global health services

The UAE government will work, in partnership with the World Health Organization, to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of health, health care, and quality of life, and intensify joint efforts to accelerate the provision of services in the fields of health and health care at the global level.

The cooperation between the two sides focuses on strengthening partnerships that support the adoption of WHO strategies as a top priority and their implementation on a larger scale. It covers the areas of capacity building, preparing leaders capable of implementing strategic plans, and bringing about positive change in WHO institutions, by providing its cadres with the most important skills. Launching accredited professional diploma programs, enhancing the role of data analysis in decision-making and preparing effective policies.
