Britain raises alert level against Corona

Health officials in the United Kingdom announced on Sunday that the alert level for the emerging corona virus (Covid-19) was raised due to the "rapid increase" in the number of infections with the Omicron mutant.

The level was raised from the third to the fourth, which means that "the outbreak is large and the pressure on health services is expanding or is in the process of increasing."

"First elements show that Omicron spreads more rapidly than Delta and that vaccine protection against Omicron's symptoms is diminished," the officials involved said.

Although the seriousness of the new mutant is still unknown and will be more evident in the coming weeks, officials have noted that there are patients in hospitals due to Omicron and their number is likely to increase rapidly.

Downing Street announced that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will address his citizens on Sunday evening in a pre-recorded speech, in which he presents the government's efforts to limit the spread of Omicron, foremost of which is the expansion of the booster dose campaign to include those over thirty years, starting Monday.

Also, the British Ministry of Health announced that, from Tuesday, individuals who completed their vaccinations after contracting Covid will be required to conduct daily rapid checks for a whole week.

As for the unvaccinated, they must adhere to the stone for ten days.

This is in addition to new measures that Johnson will present, including resuming work from home and approving the health certificate in some places, to be voted on by lawmakers on Tuesday.

The total number of Covid deaths in the United Kingdom has reached 146,000, with about fifty thousand new infections recorded every day.
