Anne Hidalgo, struggling in the polls, arose this Sunday as the guarantor of a "fair" and "united" France, facing the right and the far right, during a meeting in Perpignan, the day after his call for a primary of the left to "continue to exist".

“No pasaran!

“Proclaimed the socialist presidential candidate, facing more than a thousand people galvanized in the convention center of Perpignan, 30 km from the Spanish border.

In this city held by the National Gathering, she affirmed her will to "reunify the Republic which has been transformed into an archipelago of mistrust and resentment".

Anne Hidalgo, who on Wednesday proposed a primary to her left-wing competitors facing the risk of a second round monopolized by the right and the far right, repeated it: "The union, history shows, it" is what makes the left.

While many have joked about what they consider "a last-ditch proposition", she wants to prove that she is still "determined", despite polls which give her between 3 and 7% of the voting intentions.

"Without union, there is no destiny for the left, but without the left it is no longer France, it is no longer democracy", she insisted.

"This retreating France is not ours!"

His call for a primary, via the citizens' movement of the Popular Primary, which has been arguing for a year for a single candidacy on the left, has so far been pschitt. But "we still have time to debate fraternally in front of the citizens, to submit to their verdict and to accept it", she assured. In her speech of nearly an hour, the candidate urged her troops to stand "with their heads held high", and to refuse "in an ultimate nightmare, a victory for the far right" in April 2022.

“This retreating France is not ours!

This nation confused in an aggressive nostalgia is not ours!

This France with a falsified past is not ours, ”she insisted.

"I will not allow our Muslim compatriots to be designated as the scapegoats for the French crisis!"

I will not allow this so-called 'national preference' which is another definition of racism to prevail.

I will not allow the law of the soil to be destroyed, which is a powerful means of integration, ”she asserted.

Hidalgo pleads for a "minimum youth"

In particular, she promised “the right to vote in local elections” for foreigners and that undocumented people living in France for a long time, with work and accommodation, “will be regularized”. If elected, "France will respect its own principles by admitting on its soil students, legitimate candidates for family reunification, refugees persecuted in their own country and workers essential to our economy," continued the mayor of Paris.

For young people, she announced in particular "a '' minimum youth" ", which will be open to 18 years and" under conditions of resources ". She also promised the creation of "an endowment", starting from 5,000 euros, "aimed at providing each young person, from the age of 18, with capital to finance their projects". Revaluation of work, "school of the Republic, secular and free", "public hospital" as "common good", the candidate also recalled the main lines of her program: an increase of 15% of the minimum wage, the opening of the right of voting at 16 and the "oath" to "sanctify the retirement age at 62".

This meeting, in which the First Secretary of the Socialist Party Olivier Faure and the PS president of the Occitanie region Carole Delga participated in particular, was an opportunity to "give back hope" to the people of the left, according to Michaël Delafosse, PS mayor of Montpellier, who believes that "for the left to be present, fewer candidates are needed".
