Today, Saturday, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced the killing of 190 Houthis in the central governorate of Ma'rib. On the other hand, the Houthi group confirmed the killing of one of its military leaders in battles with government forces in Ma'rib.

A statement issued by the coalition - published by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) - added that it carried out 36 targeting operations against the Houthi militia in Marib, during the past 24 hours.

According to the statement, the attacks destroyed 20 military vehicles, air defense systems, and control units for drones, as well as killing more than 190 "terrorist elements", without other details.

The source added that violent battles erupted in the areas of "Al-Kasara" and "Dana" amid an exchange of artillery shelling;

Which led to deaths and injuries on both sides.

There was no comment from the Houthis on the course of the confrontations in Marib.

But the group acknowledged the killing of the commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Ali Muhammad Alwan al-Makani (Abu Yahya Harib).

Sadiq Haysan - appointed by the Houthis as director of the Harib Al Qaramish Directorate in Marib - said through his Facebook account that "Abu Yahya Harib was killed while leading the battles at the entrance to the city of Ma'rib."

3 civilians were killed by a landmine explosion in a car on the Marib Al-Jawf road (Al-Jazeera)

In a related context, Yemeni government sources said that 3 civilians were killed and 5 others were seriously injured as a result of the explosion of a landmine planted by the Houthis in Al-Jawf Governorate on Saturday.

She added that a landmine exploded while a "Hilux" transport vehicle was passing through a desert (dirt) road linking the "Al-Yatama" area north of Al-Jawf and the Ma'rib governorate.

Since last February, the Houthis have doubled their attacks in Marib to control it, as it is the most important stronghold of the government and the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, in addition to its enjoyment of oil and gas wealth, and the Marib gas station, which before the war supplied most of the governorates with electricity.

Yemen has been witnessing for nearly 7 years a continuous war between the pro-government forces backed by an Arab military coalition led by the neighboring Saudi Arabia, and the Iranian-backed Houthis, who have controlled several governorates, including the capital, Sanaa, since September 2014.

The United Nations says that by the end of 2021, the war in Yemen will have killed 377,000 people directly and indirectly.
